"the corvette has always been immune to japanese cars" in terms of what?
maybe in terms of "americas favorite" if that means anything.  true, the GT-R was never sold here, but it has always been superior to the vette.  the supra was a solid platform to give the vette (of the same years) a run for its money.

sure the new z06 makes tons of power, but GM has been making the same car for 50 years.  -big motor in little car go fast- advancing technology means throwing in a bigger motor.  technology has left muslce cars.  twin turbo awd, aw-steering, active diffs... far more technologically advanced.

the question your asking is subjective though.  people who know how advanced, japanese sports cars are will agree with me.  there are gt-rs that will absolutely dominate a vette on a track or anywhere for that matter.  thats not the issue.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but those who will say no to your question carry the same mentality that will buy gas-guzzling v8s, throw their wife in an SUV and order "freedom fries."  there will always be a market for gas guzzling muscle cars, no matter how out of date they are, as long as the red white and blue exists.  to say a japanese car is better than a vette, the most wholesome apple pie american sports car!?  its un-american, move to france, hippy!

A poster on thier forum got it right:

"Whenever it is that these guys roll off the line, I doubt there will be any impact to Corvette sales. I just don't see much cross shopping between them, even between the blue devil and the LF-A. The Vette is such an American icon and so good as of late that buying a more expensive competitor just doesn't make sense."

I see the *** barely hurting the corvettes sales, if at all. the corvette is sportier with more power, and sounds it. all the *** know how to make is a bland car that sounds like an angry wasp. Plus, the corvette looks menecing, while the others look like toy cars. The corvette has a good interior, could be better, but that american muscle v8 roars past the others.
