Okay, so here's the problem I have been having. Mainly at freeway speeds, my car will suddenly jump up in RPM's, and then come back down to normal, and you can hear the engine getting louder then softer when it does this. It will do this several times consecutively, stop for a little while, then start again. I don't lose any speed, however.

The car in general just isn't running smoothly at all. At lower speeds, I am getting much poorer acceleration. The engine is general seems a little louder all around, and you can just "feel" that it's not as smooth as it used to be.

Any suggestions? Someone has suggested changing the fuel filter. Anyone know what is causing this? I am in desperate need of suggestions!
