the jaguar: 2001, xk8 convertible : 58 k miles : 24k $$

corvette (hatchback) : 2003 : 54k miles : 26k $$

boxster : 2002: 60k miles : 26k $$

assuming decent histories on all 3, what do you think is the best choice ?

You are looking at three very different cars. Is this for a weekend car or daily driver? Are you going to track the car? Do you like convertibles? Have you driven any or all of them? Are you prepared for the maintenace costs?

Jaguar - they are a lovem or hatem car. It is not going to be the fastest, best handling or most reliable, but it will be the most luxurious. This a touring car that will be great for weekend trips it will be the most comfortable choice for a daily driver. It is a Jag and it WILL break, its Brittish thats what they do. Nice interior, beautiful on the outside.

Vette - fastest of the bunch. Loads of torque from the big V8, good handling, good brakes. In my opinion the Vette has a crappy interior. I have never really been comfortable in a vette either. You sit really low(I'm 6'3" and I feel like I'm sitting too low) The footwells are tiny and lots of squeaks and rattles. Good track car if you can afford to constantly be buying tires and brakes.

Boxster - Great balance(mid-engine), good handling, brakes, very comfortable car. It has a nice interior, everything works well. It will seem very slow next to the Vette, but it is fast enough to have fun with. A solid car that will stay solid for many years. I am not a convertible fan, but I kicked around the idea of buying a Boxster for a while. Porsche maintenance is expensive. If it is out of warranty you could find a good independent to bring the costs down considerably.

thanks ! that makes sense.

i am looking for a daily driver with a bit of spunk. the boxster is what i've been leaning towards.
any other coupes/convertibles that you'd suggest i look at ?

i am slightly biased towards the convertible experience but a good coupe coupled with my motorbike could still let me have the best of both worlds.

cheers

i would go with the vette, and off topic, is your username a reference to the dire straits song?
