Remember watching old sci fi movies and they'd show the cars of the future.  Now that I look at it why did some of them look like the ones here:

If you think about it they're just big flashy gas guzzlers.

a lot of them did look like gas guzzlers but you have to remember, in the 50s everyone thought we would all be driving hydrogen turbine, nuclear powered or something even more bizarre-cars. People suffered through the gas crisis of the 70s and apparently didn't learn anything from it, because the new trend in cars is bigger and heavier with bigger engines.

My question is, why is it that concept cars from the fifties llok so much more advanced than concept cars today. Whenever I see things on the world fairs and things like that, it seems like people had dreams and imaginations in the 50s and 60s. Designers now just seem so constrained, and unimaginitive. I mean, its a big thing when someone does something crazy like a car without A-Pillars. I'm still bitter that I don't have a jet pack, and I couldn't join Starfleet Academy.

i think starfleet would be in the next millenia...whoa trekkie flash, ok i'm back.  i'm think designers today are just so constrained because they've done almost everthing to the car they could already.  Imagine in the 50's how big the power window would have been, now its much harder to impress people.
