As if Toyota doesn't have enough recall issues, here's one to add to the run flat tires:

This happened to me on my 04.  I was unloading gear and heard a loud pop on the left side and the liftgate closed on me.  When I looked at the lift I discovered that it had leaked and failed.  The dealer quoted me a price of $300 to order the parts because it was out of warranty.  

I am having a similar problem ..I just came from the dealership... who claimed to have reset the computer and made it work properly. they also stated the parts may have to be replaced at $300. they actually replaced these less than four months ago!  

forgot to add the first time i tried to open it on my way home from the dealership, at the grocery store ,...the hatch came down on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  

If it does start falling just don't be an idiot and jam hockey sticks to keep it open. This damages the hinges. oops.
