Be forewarned. My window fell out of the blue in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo over the weekend while we were out of town, obviously for the same reason as everyone else on here. This is the first one we have had happen SO FAR. I called the morons at Daimler Chrysler and they informed me that due to the age of the vehicle they will not co op anything, I said well isn't it a defect and she said NO. I said are you aware that there are people looking to start a class action lawsuit due to this and she said NO THERES NOT! I highly recommend if there is any good hearted attorney out there that wants to take them on there are lots of little guys out there that need you! This is ridiculous and this is the last Chrysler product I will ever own!

I just had repaired my second window in 11 months at $150 per part. Chrysler charge me $150 for window regulator in the 2003 Grand Cherokee Overland. It is not hard to replace it but time. Anyone who knows about the window regulators part via website rather than Chrysler part dept which is overcharge.

Hi-I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, live in South Africa and like it seems many owners who raised there windows the window collapsed down. Problem the plastic cable holder that secures both ends to the window bracket - breaks the top tie - not suprising as it's plastic with incredible torque when raising the window. This is clearly a design fault. Here the Chrysler agent want R1950-00 (about $280 for the part alone)! One can repair fairly easily: The brocken plastic clip can be replaced with a bolt through the bracket (that slides up and down the main strut). The bolt is then tightly bolted to the bracket. I then cut with a hack saw 2 grooves on the top of the nut for the cables to be secured in. After placing cables in grooves place another nut on top so the cables are sandwiched between the nuts.I can supply details if necessary- works very well. asarkin@tiscali.co.za South Africa

Not only did two of my friends have this problem, but this is the SECOND time this happens to me! As a single mom, and at $400 each regulator, this is ridiculous. I contacted Jeep and in a nice way was told 'sorry'. I'm searching online and have found a crazy number of people with the same problem. Jeep needs to recall these vehicles and fix their problem. As for me, I've decided to screw the window up permanently. But I will NEVER buy Jeep again! For those of you interested in complaining, call: 1-800-992-1997. The more complaints they get, maybe they will do something.

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty and the same thing happened to me. My window just slid down and won’t come up. I contacted Jeep and was told it was the window regulator and it would cost about $380 to fix. Someone said they will only recall it if it is a safety hazard. I think it is because I have had to drive with a garbage bag taped to window blocking my visibility and also making it very hot inside the car, we live in Florida. I am so disappointed that Jeep won’t recall this problem. I hope everybody has called or written to complain:

Count me in !. 2003 Grand Cherokee, replaced two under warrantee and the third about 6 months ago. The plastic washer securing the wire to the window slider bar fails and pulls out. The motor works fine but the cheap plastic washer fails trashing the $230 assembly.
This is a cheap product not a low cost product. My dealer wanted $470 to repair. Under warantee it was a $273 repair.
Found a Window Repair Service who did the job at my office in 30 minures for $310 total including the part from the dealer at $230.

Who has a suggestion on where I could buy a window regulator assembly for the driver's side and back passenger windows? This is my second replacement for my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I mean really this is getting ridiculous. I think a window falling all of the sudden is a safety hazard, the window affected in my jeep just so happens to be where my 8 year old son sits but by the research I've done Jeep doesn't seem to care. I have called and I hope everyone else does too. I refuse to pay 400.00 a window to fix it so until then I'll keep a book crammed in there and keep manually shoving it up there. Hopefully a class action will come of it or we'll trade it in. Never ever again will I purchase one of their vehicles.

The plastic part that breaks can be replaced for a fraction of the cost of the whole unit. Chrysler won't sell you just the part that breaks, they sell you the whole window regulator, with the same plastic "weak link". At the request from people on the board, I started making these replacement parts in aluminum. The new part will never fail like the plastic one.
Purchase them here: http://pocketlogger.com/?pid=jpw
For the price of one regulator, you can fix all 4 windows and never have to worry about them again.

Is there a difference between the window motor and the regulator. If I were to purchase a window regulator with motor for my window would that be a sufficient replacement? My Driver's side front window isn't working. I can hear a ticking noise when I push the button but it won't go down.
Help!?

My local Mr. Tire (I know - what was I thinking -- but the dealer had already padded one job too many) got me for about $600 for the drivers side window on my 01 Grand Cherokee.
I'm going to trade this thing in as soon as I can for something japanese. no more jeeps.
