"It is said that deuterium to be extracted from one liter of sea water can produce as much as the amount of heat energy derived from 300 liters of gasoline through burning in the process of complete fusion reaction."
Do you think this report is a little biased...seeing that it came from the Communist newspaper of China?

Correction in title: 1 liter of water = 300 liters of gasoline.

wow this sounds really interesting.  if successfully implemented, this could cut a lot of fossil fuel usuage.  they're testing it out august 15th, i hope spiderman will be there to stop anything from going wrong

this is scary and cool all at the same time. i wonder what kind of mileage you would get out of deuterium? several trips around the world and back per half tank or something?

I don't think we will ever see a Fusion powered car, someone tell the marketing people at Ford. Fusion reactors have been around for a while now, the problem is net power in has always been greater than the net out. It really wouldn't suprise me if China could get this to work. I think they are actually taking the upcoming energy shortage a little more serious than people in the US. Not to mention I think there is more motivation for Chinese scientists to make something like this work. In China you can do scientific research and the government makes sure you live like a king. In the US you do research like that and you live a decent life as a research scientist, or you take your knowledge and education and go design the next ipod or Nike running shoe and then you live like a king.

Anyway back on topic, if we could get this to work, it would make it cheaper and cleaner to produce the energy for electric vehicles.
