Fountain Valley, Calif. – The all-new 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe scored top marks with “Good” rankings in all categories, in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) rigorous 40 mph frontal offset crash test. The all-new Santa Fe, reclassified by IIHS as a midsize SUV for the 2007 model year, features extensive standard safety equipment with features like electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and six airbags including head curtain airbags for all three rows of seats and front seat-mounted torso airbags.

Because the Santa Fe had been rated as “Good” in a prior IIHS frontal crash test, IIHS based its latest rating on a review of Hyundai’s crash test results. After reviewing the data, IIHS said the test “dummy movement was well controlled. After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.” In addition, “measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.”

“We loaded the Santa Fe with life-saving safety technologies and we’re pleased that the passive safety features of the vehicle performed so well in this high-speed test,” said Mark Barnes, vice president, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Santa Fe combines the important passive safety features with an extensive list of active safety technologies like electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes, which can help drivers avoid accidents in the first place.”

The 2007 Santa Fe began production at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery, Ala. in May 2006 and began to arrive in dealerships in June.

Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif. is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai cars and sport utility vehicles are distributed throughout the United States by Hyundai Motor America and are sold and serviced by more than 725 Hyundai dealerships nationwide.

What exactly does the government “5 Star Crash Rating” mean?  You won’t believe the answer!!  If you’re in an accident, these ratings may not help you.

Almost every car company proudly displays their “5 Star Safety Crash Rating”, each manufacturer boasting their cars are safer than the others.  But what does it all mean to you? How do they determine safety and how do they come up with a star program?  Does a vehicle with a less than 5 star rating really mean it’s not safe to drive?

Check out this website for some interesting information!!!

Interesting,

Ever since these crash tests were put on TV the consumer has become better educated, so I will only purchase a 5-star rated vehicle, no matter what, so this has been a breakthrough for safety advocates which forces manufacturers to do what they should have been doing all along.

What I have learned over the years is safety and assurance sells, so nothing new to most of us.  Price use to sell, but people are smarter than ever before with the internet enabling research before a decision is made on purchase. Hyundi has come a long way from the worst crash tests to the best, so my hats off to them for listening to market which is demanding safety first, and with Hyundi, you have safety and lowest prices, not a bad combination.

Good luck to all, Mike
