What new car would you let your teen buy?

Edmunds posted their list of the ten cheapest (less than $20k) vehicles for teenagers. They are: Honda Civic, Fit; Mazda3; Scion tC, xB; Ford Mustang; Volkswagen Jetta; Mitsubishi Eclipse; Nissan Versa; and the Pontiac Vibe.

Huh. I don't know about y'all, but all my cars were hand-me downs from the parental figures until I bought my own car (Dodge Neon). But if you had a spare $20k and your kid really wanted a new car, what would you let them buy?

you mean more like something they can"t "break" and "beat on all day. without seeing a repaire shop frequently i no i to was once a teenager too.... so  i gotta pick the civic or mazda 3  "now if you ask me the worst car to buy i think everyone will agree with the dreaded crappy Dodge Neon. "dodge should use the windshield on there as a neon sign to advertise "dont buy me or else"  neon chry-sell-er is  crappy .

My first car was a hand me down.  It was a piece of crap but I still miss it.  It was a beatin up BMW 318i with 166,000 miles on it.  It was missing side panaling,my mom crashed the car about 3 times, she used white out for scratches all over the car, there was dents all over the hood, the front foglights were knocked out, it made a really loud whistling sound when the car was fully warmed up, the windows wouldnt go down, and the air conditioner was busted.  During the summer I had to open up the interior of the door and manualy bring them down and locked all my things up in the trunk so no one tried to steal my stuff.  Yea, it was junk, but it was the best piece of junk i ever had.
