So I was watching old reruns of that show Titus that used to be on Fox, if you haven't seen it its about this guy who owns a custom car shop and has dysfunctional family issues.  Anyway there was 1 episode where he has a flashback back when he was in highschool and he decides to make his own racing fuel and decides to mix 2 parts acetone with 3 parts gasoline.  I was just wondering how smart this idea of his was.  Not that I plan on trying it, I'm just curious if he was actually onto something here.

Here, I found these on it and it seems to be pretty interesting. Indeed.

All i know is that acetone is way dangerous.
I use it in lab all the time.

Acetone can be used to break the surface tension in gas to make it atomize better. This is one way all those engine additives work. You only use about 1 ounce of acetone to every 10 gallons of gas so I think Titus was a little off in his mixture. There are several people that swear by the acetone thing, and there is even some real data to back it up, unlike the gas additive thing.

i think acetone is a legitimate octane booster for gasoline, i remember reading a comparison test with octane boosters, they used acetone as one the "homeade" booster.  I can't remember the site though, i think it worked fairly well though, especially considering the cost versus the brand octane booster.  I wouldn't listen to Titus and mix in that much acetone though...I haven't tried it regardless though since
i dont really know what acetone will do to plastic and rubber fuel lines...
